    On Monday, June 2, I will be meeting informally with a Department Chairman at HBU. That door is still open, but not very widely. I have two other academic applications out, but there is nothing to report.   • The Tragic Death: Update on Visitation and Funeral

    The family we've been praying for -- the one that suffered the horrific loss of their oldest son last Friday -- will be gathering tonight (Wednesday) for a time of visitation with friends. I have been asked to speak, and especially to share the Gospel. The funeral service will be held tomorrow. Thank you for your continued prayers.

  • A Terrible Tragedy

    Today, Friday, April 18, a family I have known for over twenty years lost their oldest son to a tragic death. I do not know the precise circumstances. This young man knew the Lord, as do his parents and siblings. Please pray for the family and for all of those who will be with them to provide love and comfort through the coming days.

    As I mentioned in an earlier prayer request, we are planning an Urban Church Planting Summit in Houston for 2009. We are approaching Houston Baptist University about the availability of their beautiful Morris Cultural Arts Center.     strangely enough, in times of death and darkness, God can still bring light to those in need. as we all know God works in mysterious ways. my prayer to you is for you to continue doing what you and your ministry are doing and may this death, bring new life. i believe that with God, death is not the end, and i hope that your ministry will continue to serve not only this family, but all of those around you.

    The visitation and funeral went very well. The family was loved on and the Gospel was clear -- and clear again -- and clear again! Praise God especially for the strength shown by the dad, whose words were inspiring and whose strength was awe-inspiring. Pray for one young woman, Courtney, who was particularly impacted by this tragedy, yet who has not yet trusted Christ. Pray that she would be saved. Thank you!

  • As the date approaches for the presentation to Leadership Network, the team is feeling led to propose a "round table" discussion, with a full scale summit coming later, perhaps in 2010.   • The meeting brought together key leaders from some of the the most evangelistically effective Baptist churches in Houston for the purpose of generating new ideas and insights for church planting in our city. It also gave me the opportunity to meet some fascinating local leaders as well as reconnect with some equally fascinating old friends.   • This morning (Saturday, April 19) I had a visit with the young man's father and briefly with their other son. The circumstances -- I won't go into any details -- were horrific. I am glad to say that the family members were not personally confronted with some of the worst of those horrors. Even so, a GREAT DEAL of grace and comfort are needed. Thank you for your prayers.
